Who We Are

Sister Bear Designs is a family of Anishinaabe Artists/Makers who create traditional and contemporary beadwork and land-based art.

Through our creations, we aim to bring our ancestral stories to life, providing a glimpse into the vibrant tapestry of Anishinaabe beadwork and land-based art.

Each creation is made with generations of love and serves as a bridge between the past and the present, inviting you to share in the stories and traditions infused within every bead and work of art.

Our Brand

Established in 2019, our brand is dedicated to preserving and celebrating our Anishinaabe ways of knowing and being through art. At the heart of our brand is our talented founder, Kathleen Sawdo.

Kathleen (and family) are proud members of Lac Des Mille Lacs Nation.  Kathleen is passionate about ensuring ancestral knowledge and skills are passed on to future generations.  She continues to work with unwavering focus on creating a path where the spirit, beauty, and significance of Anishinaabe art continues to thrive for generations to come.

Beadworking and creativity has been part of the Sister Bears family for generations. We invite you to explore our collections and embark on a journey celebrating the spirit of Anishinaabe artists and makers, through our traditional and contemporary land-based art and beadwork.

Our grandparents and family taught us how important it is to look after each other, to be kind, to share our gifts and to give back to community. We have been blessed to have support from community and though we are a small business, we do our best for the next generations!
