How We Give Back

At Sister Bear Designs, we firmly believe in the power of community. Our commitment to fostering and supporting local, national and international community runs deep within the fabric of our business. It is our Anishinaabe way of being, to always give back.

  • We prioritize responsible harvesting and gathering local materials from our territory. We follow our Anishinaabe teachings, to only take what we need and ensure whatever we have harvested will continue to grow for the next generations. We strive to source and collaborate with other Indigenous owned businesses and local small businesses.

  • We actively seek out opportunities to engage in meaningful philanthropic endeavors. Whether it be through supporting local organizations, hosting fundraising events, or donating a portion of our profits, we consistently seek to make a positive impact.

  • Education and empowerment are vital components of our commitment to community. We offer workshops and training sessions to share our expertise and help others develop new skills. By equipping individuals with the knowledge they need, we empower them to pursue their own creative endeavors and contribute to the growth and success of our community.

  • Environmental responsibility is a cornerstone of our commitment to community. We recognize the importance of preserving and protecting the environment for future generations. In all aspects of our business, we prioritize sustainable practices, reduce waste, and strive for zero harm to the environment. We are committed to creating products that are not only beautiful but also produced with minimal ecological impact.

  • Every year for May 5th and September 30th, we make Red Dress Pins and Orange Shirt Pins in honour of MMIWG2S+ and Residential School Survivors. 100% of the profits are donated to a local survivor/family or non-profit organization.

  • Since 2022, we host Manaaji’idiwin - Annual Feast & Community Market every spring! This is a free event to honour & strengthen community relationships.

  • We raised over $3000 towards Ukrainian Relief through the sales of our Kokum (grandmother) scarves! Have went to our local Unkrainian Dance Group.

  • We are often guests and speakers at local schools, Colleges, Universities and community events, sharing the beauty and strength of Anishinaabe/Indigenous ways of being and knowing.
